PHASE LOSS can occur when a fuse on one leg of a three phase system blows. A three phase motor operating under such a condition will eventually burn out. Depending on the load, the motor could regenerate up to 92% of the nominal voltage so it's important to select a phase monitor which has a user selectable adjustment to protect against this condition. In a four wire application, use a unit with a -4W suffix as these also detect loss of the neutral.
PHASE SEQUENCE is important for the correct rotation of the motor. Incorrect phase sequence can lead to machinery being damaged and perhaps serious injury to personnel.
PHASE IMBALANCE or ASYMMETRY is caused by single phase loads being primarily connected between the same two phases of a three phase system. A three phase motor runs much hotter under such a condition, considerably shortening its life.
VOLTAGE and CURRENT monitoring of three phase systems to insure that these do not exceed or drop below critical values is paramount for keeping machinery running at correct speed and problem free.
THERMISTORS are sometimes incorporated in the motor's windings measuring the resistance which increases as the temperature in the motor increases. Our 45PTR will react to this input as well as phase loss, incorrect sequence and under voltage conditions. |
